Tyre-socks, a brief tutorial.
What is tyre-socks?
Tyre-socks
are basically bicycle tyre that you cut and put on your stilt feet to
protect them from getting worn down. With the current supply of new
stilt feet, it's much easier to find and to change a tyre-sock then it
is with a normal stilt foot. You won't need tyre-socks when you are in
a gym, in fact most gyms forbid it due to that the tyres are almost
always in black. Basically, it's a protection against pavement and
other hard and rough ground types.
How do I put on tyre-socks?
You buy a bicycle tyre, 2 3" jubilee clips and some tape.
1. Cut the tyre in half and cut away the steel wire to make the tyre more flexible.
2. Take the tyre and fold it to get a good measures of how long you want it, take it away and cut in that size.
3.
Now, put the folded tyre back on and adjust it so that it fits good on
your stilt foot. Then take on of the jubilee clips and open it, put
around the stilt and the tyre and fasten it. You should be able to
tighten it pretty good to make sure the tyre doesn't move later on.
Make sure that the tyre fits good on your stilt foot and that there are
not to many gaps between the tyre and the stilt foot.
4. Tape over the jubilee clip for some protection for it and the look of it.
5. Now, repeat this procedure on your other stilt and you should and nice pair of tyre-socks on your stilts.
Good luck with you tyre-socks!
